The Imaginative Seamstress

This post has nothing to do with sewing... just a day in the life!   Last weekend there was a festival in our little town. I took my youngest daughter and the camera for a tour around the square. I've wanted to take some photos of local shops for quite some time now.. and I just don't usually have the camera with me, when I have had the chance to look around. I took this opportunity to practice some photography. My hubby gave me his camera when he updated to new equipment and I am very slowly picking up how to use it. I've used it in auto mode for some time now, but I'm trying out more of the functions now. Its nothing spectacular but I'm learning and I have fun! I've recently been playing with the white balance. First stop was the Pickett Fence (an antiques and more place)  The owner of the Pickett Fence is always painting anything and everything. Here she's painted coordinating things in peaches and turquoises. No doubt for the Summer season...

I made this for my daughter, Jubilee, just before Christmas time. Its my version of an Elsa dress. Needless to say, she is in love with it. Its made from a light nylon lycra fabric, so it stretches easily. It was quick to make since I didn't need to add a zipper or buttons :-)I lined the bodice, front and back I think... I went almost completely without a pattern. I used my swimsuit bodice pattern, and then used a shirt of hers to go by for the sleeves. And just measurements for the skirt and train..  When it snowed, I took a couple pics of her wearing it outside. She didn't like the cold, so it didn't go over really well. :-)  "Mom, its cold!"  

Each Christmas we draw names with my husband's family for Christmas. This year I got my Sister in love, Amy. She's the only girl in the family, and being a girl myself, I like it when I can draw either her, or my Mother in love. Its just more fun for me to get to think of something girly to give! I decided to make her a new swimsuit. I knew she had grown a lot (mostly in height) and would need a new suit for the coming Summer. Her mom made her last  suit and did a really good job! I knew a suit was going to be a good deal of work, but it would also make a great gift! I had 2 pieces of scrap fabric, where there was just enough to squeeze this out. And the best part was, that they went together pretty good!! I know it doesn't look quite right on my size 8 dress form. And there's a reason for that. Though Amy measured a perfect size 8, she was a perfect size 8 in everything but height. At a 60" tall, she hits the height for a size 14. I had to bunch the t...
