The Imaginative Seamstress

I'm going to make a series of posts that tell about the different styles of swimwear I make or have made in the past. There will also be several pictures for example. We'll start with the 'Original' in women's and then in  girl's sizes.  The Women's Original Suit was a tank that went to the natural waistline. It was not closely fitted. There was a belt of doubled fabric at the waist, and this belt was snug; snug enough to hold everything in place and keep it from moving. Then attached to the belt was a semi-gathered skirt that came to about finger-tip length. Spandex shorts were worn underneath this tank-dress, and they were separate from the top. Elastic was in the waist of the pants. See pictures below.... It has long been an idea that mom and I needed to host a sewing class on modest swimwear. It finally happened this year. Our friend Tasha made flyers with the dates and information. Invitations were sent and models were chosen. Mom and I both had a model to sew for. At the end of the class they got to keep their suits. Mom's model would be a 10 year old girl and mom would demonstrate making the original style for her. My model was a young lady in her mid teens, and I would be making her the 'Ice Skater Style', (as I call it).   March 5th, at 10:00am in the morning, we met at my parent's home with several home school families. Children watched science, school, and bible videos in the living room until they tired of this and went out of doors to play. There is plenty of space to play, as my parent's live on a 300 acre farm. :sigh: where to start? Early this morning I was looking at my notes from two ladies whom I've recently made swimwear for. One was a maternity suit and the other a custom order that I'd never before created, but she loved it! How awesome is that?!?! I am extremely thrilled when my suits fit well. The reason I am so pleased is because I draw my own patterns based on what has fit my family and I, other sizes are drawn from those. This is not the way I was taught to make these suits. My mom taught me to make most things without a pattern, and it was no different with these suits. Even though she had printed a women's and girl's swimwear pattern back in 1991, I had never even opened one! I was taught to make them starting with a garment that closely fit the person for whom I was sewing. Take it in here and there until it fit how you wanted it. Hello Everyone, My name is Savannah and I think I have finally found something that I can blog about! My passion for sewing and making things!  I have had a blog before but I didn't do anything with it. Like wise my journals, I have never kept one. Its sad, I've wanted to, but just could not stick with it. I have recently found that blogging is not near as hard as I had previously thought. So I am going to give this a whirl!
