Nursing top details

This past week I was working on a nursing suit order for a lady in Switzerland, that's right, Switzerland. Didn't I feel big and important to have an order from way over there? I sure did :-) Anyway, as I was finished with all sewing on the top, I usually put the suit on so I can know about how much to cinch up the sides and tie the pretty bows. I had put it on top of my t-shirt and as I was looking in the mirror, I had an idea! :-) Several people had asked me questions like "what does the suit look like inside?", "how far does the front panel come up?"...etc. Since I had a t-shirt on underneath, I could take some pictures that would help answer those questions in a visual way. So I asked the dear hubby to help me out with the picture taking. Here's what we got...

How the nursing top works, you pull one up and one down...pretty simple. The bottom layer is snug enough across the bust that it goes back into place very well. The top panel has elastic at the under-bust. If you've chosen a busy print as pictured here, its likely no one will ever know its a nursing top.

    That looks really "user-friendly", Savannah. You do such a nice job of creating functional and stylish swimwear that's modest enough to leave something to the imagination!

Training Pants (tutorial)

When I started potty training my nearly 2 year old, I went in search of training panties. I had been using cloth diapers before hand, and had tried using those for starters but they didn't work too well for potty training. I'd heard of the plastic covers and such, or trainers that had a layer of PUL in them. But I really didn't want those; I was in search of the old fashioned kind, like the Gerber ones that were made from white cloth and didn't have a plastic lining. Turns out, they're no longer just in white, but come in various prints and can be found at Walmart. That's where I found the ones I bought. They ran about $9.00 for 3 pair. My first thought was that I could make them rather than buy them. I searched for a pattern and tutorial online. I found both, but in separate locations. Types of Swimwear Fabric

First off I have to tell you, I am very picky about quality in swimwear fabric. How it feels, stretches, even what color it is on the back. (imagine that) I'll explain that a little later...  Now I can't always remember which technical names I'm looking for when I'm searching swimwear fabric on the internet, but I've got to be sure I'm looking at the right thing. Its not like I can touch it and immediately know that I've got the right stuff. I know words like nylon, spandex, lycra, and polyester, and even cotton are thrown around. I know enough to stay away from anything that says cotton-lycra on the label. When I was growing up swimwear fabric was simply called LYCRA.  But these days so much clothing is made from stretch fabrics and the word LYCRA is in everything stretchy.
