Girl's Original Style

The girl's original style is almost the same as the women's, only in a smaller size. The top was a tank with a gathered skirt and spandex pants underneath. The pants were completely separate and had an elastic waist band. Later we used a belt at the waist, just like the Women's Pattern. This belt held everything in place quite well so nothing moved around on you when you jumped in the water. Also, like on the women's suit, the girl's suit also came with the option of a 'Bib'. This was a great idea for girls who were just starting to develop in the chest and who weren't wearing a bra yet. It provided coverage and was rather cute too. Even girls who weren't to that stage sometimes wanted that style. I have actually never made one with a 'bib', my Mom is the one who has always done that.
 One thing that is different between the women's and girl's is that though the women's is rarely made anymore, the girl's on the other hand is still a favorite :-) Pictures are from newest to oldest.

Mom's Pattern for Girls. As you can see, it didn't originally have a belt. For some reason I thought it did but I was incorrect.

    How funny! We ordered this pattern from your family in the mid 90s! ha I made one when I was 14. ;-)

 This is a series of posts I'm doing on the different "Styles" of modest swimwear I've made in the past and in the present. This post in particular is on the Women's Ice Skater Suit. A fitted bodice with a drop scoop waist. Attached to an a-line skirt which is very flattering and has such flair! The spandex pants beneath are separate and have an elastic waist band. Training Pants (tutorial)

When I started potty training my nearly 2 year old, I went in search of training panties. I had been using cloth diapers before hand, and had tried using those for starters but they didn't work too well for potty training. I'd heard of the plastic covers and such, or trainers that had a layer of PUL in them. But I really didn't want those; I was in search of the old fashioned kind, like the Gerber ones that were made from white cloth and didn't have a plastic lining. Turns out, they're no longer just in white, but come in various prints and can be found at Walmart. That's where I found the ones I bought. They ran about $9.00 for 3 pair. My first thought was that I could make them rather than buy them. I searched for a pattern and tutorial online. I found both, but in separate locations. Types of Swimwear Fabric

First off I have to tell you, I am very picky about quality in swimwear fabric. How it feels, stretches, even what color it is on the back. (imagine that) I'll explain that a little later...  Now I can't always remember which technical names I'm looking for when I'm searching swimwear fabric on the internet, but I've got to be sure I'm looking at the right thing. Its not like I can touch it and immediately know that I've got the right stuff. I know words like nylon, spandex, lycra, and polyester, and even cotton are thrown around. I know enough to stay away from anything that says cotton-lycra on the label. When I was growing up swimwear fabric was simply called LYCRA.  But these days so much clothing is made from stretch fabrics and the word LYCRA is in everything stretchy.
